The Pope vs Moishe,Joke Of the Day

by kiki2u @ 2007-08-08 - 18:22:56

The POPE vs. MOISHE:
About a century or two ago, the Pope challenged the Jewish community of Rome to a debate.
The Jews looked around for a champion who could defend their faith, but no one wanted to volunteer. It was too risky. So they finally picked an old man named Moishe who spent his life sweeping up after people to represent them. Being old and poor, he had less to lose, so he agreed. He asked only for one addition to the rules of debate. Not being used to saying very much, he asked that neither side be allowed to talk. The Pope agreed.

The day of the great debate came. Moishe and the Pope sat opposite each other for a full minute before the Pope raised his hand and showed three fingers. Moishe looked back at him and raised one finger. The Pope waved his fingers in a circle around his head. Moishe pointed to the ground where he sat. The Pope pulled out a wafer and a glass of wine. Moishe pulled out an apple. The Pope stood up and said, “I give up. This man is too good. The Jews win.”

An hour later, the cardinals were all around the Pope asking him what happened. The Pope said, “First I held up three fingers to represent the Trinity. He responded by holding up one finger, to remind me that there was still one God common to both our religions. Then I waved my finger around me to show him, that God was all around us. He responded by pointing to the ground, showing that God was also right here with us. I pulled out the wine and the wafer to show that God absolves us from our sins. He pulled out an apple to remind me of original sin. He had an answer for everything. What could I do?”

Meanwhile, the Jewish community had crowded around Moishe, amazed that this old, almost feeble-minded man had done what all their scholars had insisted was impossible. “What happened?” they asked.
-“Well,” said Moishe, “first he said to me that the Jews had three days to get out of here. I told him that not one of us was leaving. Then he told me that this whole city would be cleared of Jews. I let him know that we were staying right here.”

-“And then?” asked a woman.

-“I don’t know,” said Moishe. “He took out his lunch and I took out mine.”

Snowflakes=Hexagonals,Why?

by kiki2u @ 2007-08-08 - 13:58:27

Although there are not two equal flakes, all the snow crystals present one hexagonal harmony. This happens because is related with the order in which the water molecules are placed when go from the the liquid state, where enjoy great freedom, to the solid one, that is less permissive.
When beginning to freeze, watery molecules alienate themselves in a state of minímal energy. In order to obtain it, each molecule unites itself to others four by means of connections of hydrogen, is united to others that end up forming a hexagonal prism, with hexagonal in the superior and the inferior part, and also with six rectangular faces. This is a flake :) :

One thing you notice right away about snow crystals is that they form some elaborate and complex shapes -- often displaying lacy, branching structures. Where does this complexity come from? After all, snow crystals are nothing more than ice which has condensed from water vapor. How does the simple act of water vapor freezing into ice produce such intricate designs?

The answers to these questions lie in just how water molecules travel through the air to condense onto a growing snow crystal. The water molecules have to diffuse through the air to reach the crystal, and this diffusion slows their growth. The farther water molecules have to diffuse through the air, the longer it takes them to reach the growing crystal.
So consider a flat ice surface that is growing in the air. If a small bump happens to appear on the surface, then the bump sticks out a bit farther than the rest of the crystal. This means water molecules from afar can reach the bump a bit quicker than they can reach the rest of the crystal, because they don't have to diffuse quite as far.

With more water molecules reaching the bump, the bump grows faster. In a short time, the bump sticks out even farther than it did before, and so it grows even faster. We call this a branching instability -- small bumps develop into large branches, and bumps on the branches become sidebranches. Complexity is born. This instability is a major player in producing the complex shapes of snow crystals. And since the ambient atmospheric conditions are nearly identical across the crystal, all six budding arms grow at roughly the same rate.
The temperature seen by the snow crystal is not constant in time, however, since the crystal is being blown about and is thus carried over great distances in a cloud. But the crystal growth rates depend strongly on temperature. Thus the six arms of the snow crystals each change their growth with time, reflecting the ever-changing conditions in the cloud. And because each arm sees the same conditions, each arms grows the same way.

When the branching instability applies itself over and over again to a growing snow crystal, the result is called an ice dendrite. The word dendrite means "tree-like," and stellar dendrite snow crystals are common.
We can change diffusion in the lab and see how dendrites change. If one grows snow crystals in air below atmospheric pressure, they have fewer branches. This is because diffusion doesn't limit the growth so much at lower air pressures, so the branching instability is not so strong. At higher pressures, more branches appear.
The growth of snow crystals depends on a balance between faceting and branching. Faceting tends to make simple flat surfaces, while branching tends to make more complex structures. The interplay between faceting and branching is a delicate one, depending strongly on things like temperature and humidity. This means snow crystals can grow in many different ways, resulting in the great diversity we see in snow crystal forms.

So that's the story. The intricate shape of a single arm is determined by the ever-changing conditions experienced by the crystal as it falls. Because each arm experiences the same conditions, however, the arms tend to look alike. The end result is a large-scale, complex, six-fold symmetric snow crystal. And since snow crystals all follow slightly different paths through the clouds, individual crystals all tend to all look different.

I do hope all enjoy this blog, :)),so: thank you very much to all you, friends and visitors :D Plus: My apologises as I'm not blogging since the last day i did it (Most of you are guess'g already why) because that strange heat-wave that we got last week and let lots of us very down...even me a beach girl, living all my life by the beach and used to our Summers always by the beach and playing water sports went into a real sickness :-/ I couldn't come online at all  , but i followed well all the doc.'s orders so i'm ready for another one :));)
...U-( just these recent ones the heat is really an unsual one,and we aren't used to it..(Even African Mosquitos are coming here :??:  XX(>:XX |-| )

Today i'm OK already, and i can do all i have to, as be online too.

The Hospital, when i went the next day after my last blogging was full of people of all ages, especially kids and older ones, with heart problems, some with real heart-atacks,diarrheas, fevers and/or dehydration..and others symptoms.
Animals too, as my dog still is a bit sick!
Sadly, one of my neighbour's dog,a dog i knew well and lovely, with only 2 years old, died with a heart-attack on the day we had 44+d.,(last thursday i guess) in Lisboa/Lisbon.
Now, since last saturday we got a bit rain..just a little bit lol, and fresher days..well, by fresher i mean: between 27+ to 35+degrees...just since yesterday is turning hotter and will be hotter again next days...but now i'm ready  for those next days :)) oh yes!
Hope you're all having nice days, warm and sunny ones :D ..i sun-danced for you huh?!I know it worked in some UK's areas ;) :)) Yes, you're getting Summer days :D
CHEERS to that,
Now, i'm going to have a nescafe' while i blog-around, replying you all on yours blogs and on mine,as blog-read you, missing it, so i know what you've been up too :D :)) ...and i need2work by my laptop as well  but i'm around home by laptop today, it's a must!
